CBS News left a lot on the cutting room floor for President Donald Trump’s interview with “60 Minutes” on Sunday — including a question about its new boss, Bari Weiss, and the president lashing out over a pardon question.
“‘60 Minutes’ paid me a lot of money — and you don’t have to put this on, because I don’t want to embarrass you and I’m sure you’re not,” Trump said.
“I think you have a great new leader, frankly, because the young woman that’s leading your whole enterprise is a great — from what I know. I don’t know her, but I hear she’s a great person,” Trump said about Weiss, the new head of CBS News.
Months after CBS settled with the president on a lawsuit that claimed “60 Minutes” deceptively edited its interview with then-Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Trump sat down for a lengthy interview. Only about 28 minutes aired on TV Sunday, but the show posted a 73-minute version online. Notably missing from the on-air version: Trump’s comments boasting about extracting money from CBS, and him praising Weiss. CBS parent company Paramount has been accused of kowtowing to Trump so he wouldn’t scuttle a multi-billion dollar sale of Paramount to Skydance.
Another thing you won’t find in the “full interview” posted online: Trump’s threat to walk out after a question about him pardoning a crypto billionaire, Changpeng Zhao. Trump’s remark was included in the full transcript that CBS News posted on its website, but it was not in the 73-minute version posted online. Zhao’s company Binance formed a business deal with the Trump family’s crypto business in May.
