The Sacramento Kings won their first game of the season, in a 130-114 victory over the Utah Jazz, but Coach Mike Brown said ""I don’t even want to talk about basketball.” He was visibly emotional, saying that as he walked to the media room he was told about the mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine that left at least 18 dead, including many at a youth bowling night.
“The first thing I'd like to say is I don't know everything that's going on, but I'm not that smart, but I know we as a country got to do something,” Brown said. “It's sad, and it's sad that we sit here and watch this happen time after time after time after time, and nobody does anything about it.” He choked up, repeated that “It’s a sad day” three times, “until we decide to do something about it, the powers that be, this is going to keep happening, and our kids aren't going to be able to enjoy what the United States is about because we don't know how to fix a problem that's right in front of us.”
