On March 5, 37 year old Dexter Wade was hit by an SUV driven by an unidentified Jackson, Mississippi police officer and buried in an unmarked grave. His mother, Bettersten Wade, filed a missing person’s report nine days later, but she didn’t find out he had been identified and buried until August.
She appeared at a press conference with civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who said Dexter will be exhumed and autopsied.
His mother took the podium and she spoke to the police and they “said they ain't seen him. Everybody said they didn't know where he was. So what else did I have to turn? I had to turn to somebody that had more power than I did. And that's our police department. Our police department is supposed to help.”
Bettersten’s brother was the subject of a wrongful death suit against the Jackson Police Department, who allegedly pulled him out of his car and beat him to death.
