Fox News’ Brit Hume on Monday criticized President Donald Trump for saying Russian leader Vladimir Putin has suddenly changed and is “CRAZY!” for his repeated attacks on Ukraine.
“I don’t know what the president is talking about,” Hume said Monday on Fox news. “This is the way Putin has always been. He’s always been a particularly brutal dictator.”
Trump had criticized his Russian counterpart Sunday after Putin escalated his attacks on Ukraine. Over the weekend, Russia launched its largest airstrikes and bombings of Ukrainian cities — mostly aimed at civilian targets — over the past three years. The attacks, which featured nearly 370 missiles and drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, killed at least 12 people and injured dozens across the country. The attacks happened just days after Trump said he had an “excellent” two-hour phone call that Trump promised would lead to peace negotiations.
After the attacks, Trump said he was considering more sanctions on Russia, reflecting the fragile state of negotiations to try and end the three-year-long war.
“I’m not happy with what Putin’s doing,” Trump told reporters Sunday. “He’s killing a lot of people, and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin. I’ve known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all, okay?
In response, the Kremlin called Trump “emotional.”
