Rep. Blake Moore had to be woken up during a House Ways and Means Committee vote at 4:57 a.m. Wednesday.
The committee had been conducting a series of votes during a marathon markup session of the Republican budget agenda that went through the night.
“Mr. Fitzpatrick? Mr. Fitzpatrick, no. Mr. Steube? Mr. Steube, no. Ms. Tenney? Ms. Tenney, no. Mrs. Fischbach? Mrs. Fischbach, no. Mr. Moore? Mr. Moore?” the committee clerk said as they ran through the members to collect their votes, only to pause when there was no response from the 44-year-old Utah Republican.
The camera panned down the panel, showing Moore in a deep sleep in his chair. He was ultimately woken up by his colleague next to him, Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-MN).
The incident prompted laughter in the room, including from Moore, who received pats on the back from Fischbach.
“Mr. Moore, no,” the clerk finally read out.
Moore, still laughing, proceeded to give a little bow in acknowledgment of the embarrassing moment.
