Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt how mad she thought Donald Trump would be at Elon Musk for blasting the president’s “Big Beautiful Bill” as a “disgusting abomination” during Tuesday’s press briefing.
“How mad do you think President Trump is going to be when he finds out that Elon Musk said, ‘I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.’”
The de-facto head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) made the comment on X (formerly Twitter) while the White House press briefing was taking place.
“Look, the president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change the president’s opinion,” Leavitt responded, with a seemingly forced chuckle. “This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said he found Musk’s post “very disappointing.” “My friend Elon is terribly wrong,” he told reporters.
Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries led his Tuesday press conference by saying, “Breaking news: Elon Musk and I agree with each other.”
Musk later went on to share another tweet critical of the GOP, adding, “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”
The bill narrowly passed the House in May, and is now moving through the reconciliation process in the Senate. Several Republicans have already vowed to make significant changes to the legislation.
