Civil rights attorney Ben Crump says they will ask the DoJ to investigate the Jackson PD over Dexter Wade's death.

On March 5, 37 year old Dexter Wade was hit by an SUV driven by an unidentified Jackson, Mississippi police officer and buried in an unmarked grave. His mother, Bettersten Wade, filed a missing person’s report nine days later, but she didn’t find out he had been identified and buried until August.

She appeared at a press conference with civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who said Dexter will be exhumed and autopsied.

Mr. Crump, asked if they were anticipating criminal charges, said they would be asking the Department of Justice to investigate because “the family does not have trust in the Mississippi officials.”

Bettersten’s brother was the subject of a wrongful death suit against the Jackson Police Department, who allegedly pulled him out of his car and beat him to death.

Crump asked, “How could you have faith that they would do right now after they broke your heart so many other times?”
