Biden reiterates warning to Iran in response to U.S. troops recently attacked in the Middle East: “We will respond.”

24 American troops have been injured during drone attacks on American bases in Syria and Iraq, which are suspected to be the work of Iranian groups like Hezbollah. President Biden warned Iran that the U.S. would respond to future attacks.

He was asked at a press conference in the Rose Garden if that warning meant that the Israel-Hamas war had already expanded to a regional war beyond the borders of Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Biden reiterated that the U.S. wouldn’t stand for continued attacks, but that this was independent of the war in Israel. He said we’ve had troops in the region since the September 11th attacks, troops that are now preventing the re-emergence of ISIS, and the war didn’t change that fact.

"My warning to the Ayatollah,” Biden said, “was that if they continued to move against those troops, we will respond and he should be prepared. It has nothing to do with Israel."
